Key Features
- Compact Officer-Style Frame — The 3.5-inch barrel and reduced grip length make this pistol easier to conceal under a light jacket or IWB holster without sacrificing the 1911 platform’s accuracy.
- Novak Drift-Adjustable Sights — Front and rear Novak sights allow precise windage adjustments, giving you a reliable sight picture for defensive shooting or range work.
- Dual Safeties — A manual thumb safety and grip safety provide two layers of secure handling, which matters when carrying appendix or in a purse where accidental engagement is a concern.
- Checkered Black Grips — The aggressive texture keeps your hand locked in place during recoil, especially important with the shorter barrel and lighter weight of the Officer model.
- Single-Action Trigger — A crisp 1911-style trigger break gives you predictable shot placement, which new shooters appreciate for learning fundamentals and experienced users rely on for fast follow-ups.
Who It's For
This Taurus 1911 Officer is for the shooter who wants a traditional 1911 but needs a smaller footprint for everyday carry. It suits new shooters learning the 1911 platform, as well as experienced carriers who prefer a single-action trigger and manual safety. If you train regularly and want a reliable 9mm that conceals well under a T-shirt or light cover garment, this pistol fits that role.
Pros and Cons
- Pro: Affordable entry into a compact 1911 — often hundreds less than custom builds.
- Pro: 9mm chambering reduces ammo cost and recoil compared to .45 ACP, making practice more accessible.
- Pro: Steel frame soaks up recoil better than polymer alternatives of the same size.
- Con: The finish on the matte black slide may show holster wear sooner than some high-end coatings; a light oil application helps maintain appearance.

FAQ
Is the Taurus 1911 Officer 9mm reliable for self-defense?
Yes, with quality 9mm ammunition and proper lubrication, this pistol has proven reliable in defensive shooting classes. The shorter barrel can be more sensitive to limp-wristing, so a firm grip is essential. Use factory-loaded 115- or 124-grain FMJ or JHP for best results.
What holsters fit the Taurus 1911 Officer 3.5-inch barrel?
Most holsters designed for a compact 1911 with a 3.5-inch barrel will fit. Look for Officer-size or compact 1911 models from brands like Alien Gear, CrossBreed, or Vedder. The dust cover is standard 1911 spec, so retention is consistent.
Can I upgrade the sights on this pistol?
Yes, the Novak-style dovetail cut accepts standard Novak front and rear sights. You can swap them for night sights or fiber-optic options without modifying the slide. Drift adjustment requires a sight pusher or brass punch.
Does this model have a full-length guide rod?
No, the Taurus 1911 Officer uses a standard two-piece guide rod and recoil spring assembly. This simplifies disassembly and makes it easy to replace recoil springs during routine maintenance.
