Who It’s For
This pistol is built for shooters who want a high-capacity 9mm 1911 without giving up the classic controls they grew up shooting. It’s a great fit for new gun owners looking to start with a reliable, accurate handgun that won’t need upgrades right away. Experienced shooters will appreciate the compensated barrel for faster splits and the factory-installed dot for quick target acquisition.
Pros & Cons
- Pro: Factory-compensated slide keeps the gun flat and controllable, even with hot 9mm loads.
- Pro: The Gear Pac saves you $200+ compared to buying the pistol, dot, and bag separately.
- Con: The 4.25-inch barrel is on the shorter side for a competition gun — some shooters may prefer a 5-inch model for a longer sight radius.

FAQ
Does the Springfield Armory 1911 DS Prodigy Comp come with the optic installed?
Yes — the Viridian RFX11 green dot is factory-installed and zeroed at 25 yards. You don’t need to buy a separate optic plate or red dot.
What magazines are included in the Gear Pac?
You get three 20-round double-stack magazines. They are full-size, flush-fit magazines designed specifically for the Prodigy frame.
Is this pistol legal in my state?
We ship to all 50 states, but some states have magazine capacity limits. If your state restricts magazines over 10 rounds, we can block the magazines to comply. Contact us before ordering if you have questions.
Can I change the optic later?
Yes — the slide uses the AOS (Agency Optic System) footprint, so you can swap plates to fit most popular red dots like Trijicon RMR, Holosun 407C/507C, or Leupold DeltaPoint Pro.
