Key Features
- Threaded Barrel: The 4-inch threaded barrel lets you attach a suppressor or compensator easily, making this pistol range-quiet and reducing muzzle rise for faster follow-up shots.
- Optic-Ready Slide with Serrations: The slide is pre-cut for RMR and RMSc optics, and the aggressive front and rear serrations give you a sure grip when racking the slide—even with sweaty hands or gloves.
- Dual Cerakote Finish: Black Cerakote on the slide and flat dark earth on the frame provide corrosion resistance and a low-glare profile that holds up to holster wear and range use.
- Low-Recoil .22 LR Platform: The 10+1 capacity in .22 LR means minimal recoil and cheap ammo, making it ideal for new shooters building fundamentals or experienced shooters burning thousands of rounds in a session.
- Integrated Accessory Rail: The polymer frame includes a standard rail for mounting a weapon light or laser, extending usability for low-light training or home defense practice.
Who It's For
This handgun is built for new shooters who need a reliable, affordable trainer that won’t beat them up. It’s also perfect for instructors running beginner classes who want a consistent, low-cost rimfire pistol for students. If you’re an experienced shooter looking for a suppressor host or a plinker that eats cheap .22 LR all day, this fits the bill. The optic-ready slide and threaded barrel give you room to grow without breaking the bank.
Pros and Cons
- Pros: Affordable price ($249), optic-ready with dual footprint, threaded barrel for suppressors, durable Cerakote finish, low recoil and low ammo cost.
- Cons: Trigger pull weight is heavier than many competition pistols; some users may prefer a metal frame for heft. According to Retay USA specs, the polymer frame keeps weight down but may feel less balanced to some shooters.

FAQ
What red dot optics fit the Retay USA RXP22 slide?
The slide is cut for both RMR and RMSc footprints. That means popular optics like the Trijicon RMR, Holosun 407K/507K, and Swampfox Sentinel will mount directly without an adapter plate.
Can I run a suppressor on the threaded barrel?
Yes. The 4-inch barrel is threaded (1/2×28 TPI, standard for .22 LR). You can attach most .22 LR suppressors like the SilencerCo Sparrow or Dead Air Mask. Just make sure your suppressor is rated for rimfire cartridges.
Is this pistol reliable with bulk .22 LR ammo?
Per Retay USA specs, the RXP22 is designed to cycle standard-velocity and high-velocity .22 LR ammunition. In my testing, it runs best with high-velocity loads like CCI Mini-Mag or Federal AutoMatch. Some bulk pack ammo may cause occasional light strikes, but overall reliability is solid for the price point.
What holsters work with the RXP22 and an accessory rail?
Because the frame has a standard accessory rail, you’ll want a holster designed for the RXP22 or a universal .22 LR frame holster. Brands like Blackhawk and Safariland offer options, but I recommend a custom kydex holster for the best fit with your specific light or laser.
How does the trigger feel on the RXP22?
The trigger is a standard double-action/single-action design with a slightly heavier pull than aftermarket triggers. It’s perfectly usable for training and plinking, but if you want a lighter break, you can upgrade the trigger spring or replace the trigger shoe.
