About this product
The Kimber Custom LW Shadow Ghost 9mm 5in Barrel is a 1911-style single-action semi-automatic pistol built around a lightweight aluminum frame. It pairs a 5-inch match-grade stainless barrel with a KimPro-finished frame and a KimPro Black stainless slide for a restrained, durable finish. Key Features
- Lightweight Aluminum Frame — Why it matters: Sheds over half a pound compared to steel-frame 1911s, making it comfortable for all-day carry or long range sessions without fatigue.
- 5-Inch Match-Grade Stainless Barrel — Why it matters: Delivers factory-tested accuracy for tight groups at 25 yards, and the stainless steel resists corrosion in humid Southern climates.
- KimPro Finish — Why it matters: Provides a tough, low-glare surface that holds up to holster wear and sweat, keeping the pistol looking sharp season after season.
- Fiber-Optic Front Sight — Why it matters: Picks up light fast for quick target acquisition in low-light dove fields or indoor ranges, while the white-dot rear offers a familiar sight picture.
- Double-Diamond Rubber Grips — Why it matters: Offers a positive, non-slip hold even with sweaty hands, and the classic diamond pattern adds a touch of tradition.
Who It's For
This pistol is for the Southern shooter who appreciates the classic 1911 platform but wants a lighter, modernized carry or range gun. It suits bird hunters who need a reliable sidearm for backup, competition shooters who value a crisp single-action trigger, and collectors who admire Kimber's craftsmanship. The 9mm chambering makes it economical for regular practice, and the fiber-optic sights are ideal for aging eyes in variable light.
Pros and Cons
- Pros: Lightweight aluminum frame reduces carry weight; match-grade barrel delivers sub-2-inch groups at 25 yards; KimPro finish resists rust and scratches; fiber-optic front sight improves visibility; three-hole aluminum trigger provides a clean 4-5 lb pull.
- Cons: Aluminum frame may show wear faster than steel under heavy use; the 9mm chambering limits recoil spring life compared to .45 ACP — plan for spring replacement every 2,000 rounds.
