About this product
The FN 509 Compact Tactical FDE 9mm 4.32″ Threaded is a compact, optics-ready pistol built for modern duty and everyday carry. It comes from the factory with suppressor-height night sights, a threaded barrel, and the FN Low-Profile Optics Mounting System—ready for your favorite mini red dot, right out of the box. This is a serious shooter’s tool, not a safe queen.

Key Features
- FN Low-Profile Optics Mounting System — This system lets you mount a miniature red dot directly to the slide without adapter plates. You keep a lower bore axis, and the optic sits low enough to co-witness with the factory suppressor-height sights.
- Cold hammer-forged, threaded barrel (4.32″, 1/2×28) — Cold hammer-forging makes the barrel harder and longer-lasting. The 1/2×28 threads are the standard for common muzzle brakes, compensators, and suppressors, so you won’t hunt for oddball adapters.
- Suppressor-height night sights — These tritium sights glow in low light and are tall enough to see over a suppressor. They also work as backup irons if your red dot ever fails.
- Interchangeable backstraps — Four different size backstraps let you dial in the grip to your hand. This helps with recoil control and getting a consistent high grip.
- Flat Dark Earth polymer frame with accessory rail — The FDE color reduces glare and matches popular gear. The integrated rail accepts standard lights and lasers for low-light use.
Who It’s For
This pistol is for the shooter who wants a compact 9mm that pulls double duty: a reliable EDC during the day and a suppressed host or optics-ready nightstand gun at home. It’s also a good fit for someone new to optics on handguns—the mounting system is straightforward, and the co-witness sights give you confidence as you learn.
Pros & Cons
- Pro: Optics-ready out of the box with no adapter plates needed. Pro: 1/2×28 threaded barrel works with most suppressors and compensators. Pro: Night sights are included, not an add-on. Pro: Compact size (4.32″ barrel) balances concealability with shootability.
- Con: The factory trigger has a bit more take-up than some aftermarket triggers. It’s perfectly serviceable for duty use, but competition shooters may want to swap it out. Per FN specs, the trigger pull is 5.5–7.5 pounds.

FAQ
Does this pistol come with a red dot optic?
No. The slide is optics-ready with the FN Low-Profile Mounting System, but you need to purchase a miniature red dot separately. The mounting system accepts multiple footprints (RMR, DeltaPoint Pro, etc.) without adapter plates.
What suppressor will work with the 1/2×28 threaded barrel?
Any 9mm suppressor with a 1/2×28 piston will thread directly onto this barrel. Popular options include the SilencerCo Omega 9K, Dead Air Wolfman, and Rugged Obsidian 9. Always verify thread pitch with your specific suppressor.
Can I carry this pistol concealed?
Yes. The compact frame (4.32″ barrel, roughly 6.5″ overall length) and 15-round magazine make it suitable for IWB or OWB carry. The FDE finish also reduces printing against light-colored clothing.
Are extra magazines available?
Yes. FN sells 15-round and 17-round magazines for the 509 Compact Tactical. The 17-rounders extend the grip slightly but give you more capacity.
