About this product

CZ has rolled out a fresh striker-fired 9mm, and it lands here with every version in one place. The DUTY 4.0 comes as the C compact and the F full-size, and both are offered with or without a manual thumb safety, marked MS on the safety models. Under the fiberglass-reinforced polymer grip sits a serialized internal chassis, which is the registered part, so the grip frame around it is modular. Every model carries a 4-inch barrel, fixed sights and a slide cut for direct-mount red dots.

For a buyer shopping across brands, the numbers are easy to compare. The compact holds 15+1, or 17+1 with the extended base plate, and the full-size holds 17+1, or 19+1 extended. The trigger is CZ's refined SFDA design with a pull around 5.6 pounds, a 4 mm reset and 9 mm of travel. Width is 1.3 inches on either size, overall length is 7.4 inches, and the MSRP is $729 for a brand-new service pistol.

Pick the F when the gun lives on a belt or in a bedside rather than under a T-shirt. Over the compact it adds two rounds (17+1 against 15+1), about 8 mm of grip and 10 g of weight, and nothing else changes.

CZ built the DUTY around a registered chassis that the polymer grip frame wraps around, the same idea that lets a shooter change frame size without buying a new registered gun. The trigger is a refined SFDA striker unit, 25 ± 4 N (5.6 ± 0.9 lbs) pull, 0.16 in (4 mm) reset, 9 ± 1 mm (0.4 ± 0.04 in) travel. The slide takes optics by direct mounting; CZ's product photos show Holosun, Aimpoint and Shield units in place. Sights are fixed, the 4-inch barrel is not threaded.

A external safety is the one thing that separates this model from its sibling. It sits beside the three automatic safeties, firing pin block, trigger safety and trigger bar safety, and does not change the trigger pull.

Best fit: the belt, the bedside and the range; the version to buy if you rarely need to hide the gun. Shooters coming from a CZ 75 will recognize the grip angle; shooters coming from any other striker gun will notice the trigger first.

Frequently asked questions

Which DUTY 4.0 should I pick, the C or the F?

Does the slide take a red dot without a plate?
Yes, the slide is cut for direct-mount optics, and CZ's own photos show Holosun, Aimpoint and Shield dots fitted.
