Key Features

  • National Match Barrel: The 5-inch stainless barrel is match-grade from the factory, giving you tighter accuracy right out of the box — why it matters: you spend less time and money on upgrades and more time shooting tight groups.
  • Brushed Stainless Finish: Colt applies a durable brushed stainless finish that resists rust and wear — why it matters: this gun holds up to humid range days and frequent cleaning without losing its looks.
  • Blue G10 Checkered Grips with Scallops: The aggressive checkering and scalloped relief cuts give you a positive grip even with sweaty hands — why it matters: you maintain control during rapid fire strings, reducing muzzle flip and improving follow-up shot speed.
  • Novak Red Fiber-Optic Front Sight: The bright red fiber-optic front sight stands out against any background — why it matters: you acquire your sight picture faster, especially in low light or against dark targets.
  • Adjustable Bomar-Style Rear Sight: The rear sight is fully adjustable for windage and elevation — why it matters: you can dial in your zero for different loads or distances without sending the gun to a smith.

Who It’s For

This pistol is for the competitive target shooter who wants a 1911 that’s ready to run in USPSA, IDPA, or steel challenge without having to send it off for custom work. It’s also a great fit for the shooter who appreciates a classic platform but wants modern sights and a durable finish. If you’re a new owner looking to get into competition shooting, this gun gives you a solid foundation without the premium price tag of a full custom build.

Pros / Cons

  • Pros: Match-grade barrel from the factory; excellent sight system for fast target acquisition; durable stainless finish; comfortable, grippy G10 grips; adjustable rear sight for fine-tuning.
  • Cons: The trigger pull is around 4.5 to 5 pounds out of the box — some shooters prefer a lighter trigger for precision work. A simple trigger job or drop-in trigger kit can fix this, but it’s something to budget for if you want a sub-3-pound pull.

FAQ

Is the Colt Gold Cup Lite 9mm 5″ Stainless G10 Grips suitable for concealed carry?

While it can be carried, it’s a full-size 1911 with a 5-inch barrel and weighs nearly 40 ounces unloaded. Most shooters find it too heavy and large for daily concealed carry. It’s really built for the range and competition, not for holster carry.

Does this pistol come with a manual safety?

Yes. It has a standard 1911 thumb safety that is ambidextrous, making it easy to use for both right- and left-handed shooters. It also has a grip safety, so it won’t fire unless you have a proper grip on the gun.

Can I install a red dot optic on this pistol?

The slide is not cut for an optic from the factory. You’ll need to have a gunsmith mill the slide for a red dot, or you can use a dovetail mount that replaces the rear sight. The adjustable Bomar-style rear sight is great for iron sight shooting, but if you want a dot, plan on some extra work.

What magazines are compatible with the Colt Gold Cup Lite?

It uses standard 1911 9mm magazines. Colt factory magazines work great, but you can also use quality aftermarket options like Wilson Combat or Chip McCormick. Stick with 9mm-specific 1911 mags for reliable feeding.
