Key Features
- 4.25-inch match-grade barrel — WHY IT MATTERS: Gives you the accuracy of a full-size gun but with a shorter sight radius that handles easier in tight spaces. Per the manufacturer, this barrel is button-rifled for consistent bullet engagement.
- Aluminum alloy frame — WHY IT MATTERS: Saves nearly 6 ounces over a steel frame 1911, making this a solid choice for all-day carry or long range sessions without fatigue.
- Oversized thumb safety — WHY IT MATTERS: Lets you sweep the safety off fast without shifting your grip — critical when you need that first shot on target.
- Checkered front strap — WHY IT MATTERS: Keeps your hand locked in place during rapid fire, even if your palms get sweaty or wet.
- Novak-style dovetail sights — WHY IT MATTERS: Easy to swap for fiber-optic or night sights if you want a different sight picture, and the low profile won’t snag on holsters.
Who It’s For
This pistol is a solid fit for the local shooter who wants a 1911 without the heavy .45 ACP recoil. New gun owners will appreciate the manageable 9mm cartridge and the familiar thumb safety layout. Families looking for a home-defense handgun that’s easy for multiple shooters to handle will find the Romulus a safe, straightforward choice. It also works great for IDPA shooters who want a reliable 1911-style gun in a division-friendly caliber.
Pros & Cons
- Pro: Lightweight aluminum frame makes it easy to carry all day — 30.5 oz is lighter than many polymer guns.
- Pro: 9mm ammo is cheaper and more available than .45 ACP, so you can practice more often.
- Pro: Standard 1911 controls mean you can upgrade grips, triggers, and safeties with off-the-shelf parts.
- Con: The aluminum frame can show holster wear faster than steel or stainless steel finishes — plan on a quality kydex holster to keep the Cerakote looking fresh.

FAQ
What magazines does the AF1911-ROMULUS use?
It uses standard 1911 9mm magazines. Most 9-round and 10-round 1911 mags from brands like Wilson Combat, McCormick, or Checkmate will work fine. We recommend sticking with metal-body mags for best reliability.
Is this gun optics-ready?
No, the slide comes with Novak-style dovetail sights, but it is not cut for a red dot. You can send the slide to a gunsmith for milling if you want to add an optic later.
Can I use this for concealed carry?
Yes, the 4.25-inch barrel and 30.5 oz weight make it a good carry option for people who prefer a 1911 platform. Just make sure you have a sturdy belt and a quality holster that covers the trigger guard.
Does this pistol have a firing pin block?
Per the manufacturer specs, the AF1911-ROMULUS uses a traditional 1911 design without a firing pin block. This gives you a cleaner trigger pull but means you should carry it with the safety engaged.
